The Republican primary race just got a little less interesting with the departure of Congressman Will Hurd from the race. Hurd, known for his background as a CIA spy and his vocal criticism of former President Donald Trump, decided to call it quits and throw his support behind Nikki Haley for the party’s nomination. Looks like Hurd couldn’t handle the heat and the pressure of the campaign, just like Miami Mayor Francis Suarez who dropped out in August. These candidates couldn’t raise enough funds and failed to meet the benchmarks set by the Republican National Committee to qualify for the televised debates. It’s a tough world out there, folks.
But Hurd believes that Haley is the best chance the GOP has to defeat President Joe Biden next year. In an email to his supporters, Hurd praised Haley for her ability to unite the nation and navigate complex challenges, especially when it comes to national security. He also took a swipe at former President Trump, claiming that Haley has a different vision for the country and a better understanding of foreign policy. Well, isn’t he a breath of fresh air.
As one of the few Black Republicans in the House, Hurd tried to stand out from the pack of also-rans in the GOP field. But let’s be honest, nobody really noticed. He even released an autobiography last year, titled “American Reboot: An Idealist’s Guide to Getting Big Things Done,” where he talked about his colorful background and upbringing. Good for him, but it seems like it didn’t make much of an impact on the primary race.
Meanwhile, President Trump is still leading the pack by huge margins, as expected. He’s got the support of up to 60 percent of Republicans, according to some polls. The rest of the candidates, including Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, Mike Pence, Chris Christie, Tim Scott, Doug Burgum, and Asa Hutchinson, are just hanging on for dear life. Let’s see who will be the next to throw in the towel and endorse someone else. It’s a circus, folks.
