Starbucks CEO Flees Seattle for Florida as New Millionaire Tax Hits

The left loves to talk about taxing the rich. They claim it’s “fair,” that millionaires “don’t pay their share.” But when the tax man comes knocking, even big-name liberals start heading for the exit. Take the stunning move by longtime Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. One day, he’s a Seattle coffee kingpin. Next, he’s sipping lattes under the Florida sun. What happened? Washington’s liberal politicians decided it was time for a so-called “millionaires’ tax.” And just like that, the Democrat experiment in soaking the rich sent another wealthy leader packing.

Seattle loves to virtue-signal about how “welcoming” and “progressive” it is. But when push comes to shove, and the true cost of their utopian ideas hits home, the wealthy run for the hills—or in this case, the beaches. Schultz and his wife could have settled anywhere. Why did they pick Miami? It’s no secret: Florida doesn’t punish success. Washington, on the other hand, seems determined to drive out anyone who dares to build something.

There’s nothing accidental about this timing. Schultz’s big move out of Seattle came on the very same day Washington’s House passed a massive new tax aimed squarely at millionaires. Anyone with common sense sees what’s really going on. Liberals push these taxes for political brownie points, and then act shocked when the job creators and investors vanish, leaving everybody else with the bill.

It’s a classic tale of progressive hypocrisy. The left wants to bankroll their big-government dreams on the backs of those who generate real jobs and real wealth. Instead of creating an environment where success is rewarded, they chase it away. Look at California, New York, and Illinois—decades of high taxes and anti-business laws have sparked exoduses to places like Texas and Florida. Now Washington is going down the same dead-end road.

So here’s the real question: When will the left admit their failure? How many more millionaires have to leave before Washington’s leaders realize you can’t tax and spend your way to prosperity? Or maybe they don’t care—as long as they’ve got their talking points and taxpayer-funded pensions. Schultz got smart and left. Who’s next?
