Still Wondering: Are We Better Off Now Than 5 Years Ago?

In today’s world of shifting identities and blurred realities, the simplest questions can cause the most confusion. How is it that the very essence of being a woman—once celebrated and respected—has become so perplexing for some to define? This head-scratching scenario played out during a recent exchange involving the straightforward question, “What is a woman?” The inability to provide a firm answer speaks volumes about today’s tangled web of identity politics.

It seems the straightforward truth that women are biologically female is a controversial notion in some circles. Once upon a time, everyone knew what a woman was—a unique creation with her own distinct biological and social roles. Now, however, we have people who hesitate, dodge, and deflect when asked to define “woman.” Could it be that reality is too much for them to handle? Science and common sense both affirm that men and women are different, biologically and physiologically. Yet, here we are, debating the undeniable.

The question becomes even more impactful when we consider legal and constitutional protections meant explicitly for women. How can courts uphold rights based on sex when some can’t even define it? The legal system is built on clarity and precision; muddled definitions only cloud crucial protections and rights. One shouldn’t need a PhD in gender studies to recognize the simple fact: women have rights as women because they are biologically women. The law recognizes this, and so should society.

This obsession with redefining words stems from a broader push to erase traditional boundaries. It’s almost a parody of itself—one can easily envision a scenario where someone would need to profess whether they’re a cat or simply describe one. The irony would be laughable if it weren’t so serious. To anyone watching, it is clear that the emperor has no clothes—or at least doesn’t know how to define them.

At the end of the day, the refusal to define what a woman is hurts everyone, especially women themselves. It denies them the recognition they deserve as unique, contributing members of society. You can change forms and words all you like, but reality stays the same. For the sake of women everywhere, let’s grasp this simple truth and move on to more complex debates. After all, some things are not worth arguing about; sometimes, the answer is just as clear as day.
