In yet another twist in the race for Speaker of the House, Congressman Jim Jordan’s nomination has been withdrawn after three failed floor votes. Now, Representative Byron Donalds of Florida is throwing his hat back in the ring for the position. Critics were quick to point out that three failed votes pale in comparison to the fifteen required to secure former Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s position. However, Congressman Cory Mills of Florida voiced his support for Donalds, saying he now backs him for the speakership. Independent journalist Nick Sortor also confirmed Donalds’ candidacy, noting his previous mentions as a possible Trump vice president.

According to The Post Millennial, Donalds is just one of several potential candidates to emerge in the wake of Jordan’s removal. The House Republican Conference is scheduled to hold its next candidate forum on Monday, making it unlikely for another floor vote to take place that same day. Instead, the next vote is expected to occur on Tuesday morning, giving prospective candidates until Sunday noon to submit their names.
Among the other potential candidates mentioned are Representatives Jodey Arrington of Texas and Tom Emmer of Minnesota. The Daily Caller has reported that Wall Street favors Patrick McHenry, the current Speaker Pro Tempore of the House. It seems the race for Speaker is heating up, as various contenders vie for the coveted position.
Donalds, who gained national recognition in the January 2023 Speaker election, has been known for his efforts in exposing corruption within the Biden family, particularly focusing on Hunter Biden’s questionable activities. His influential role in this realm has only grown, making him a significant player in the political arena.
