A 17-year-old illegal immigrant evaded Border Patrol agents in Del Rio, Texas and breached the Laughlin Air Force Base. The young Mexican national fled from a stopped SUV and managed to enter the base by jumping a fence. After an hour, officials captured the teenager and took him into custody. Additionally, four adult men in the vehicle, all believed to be in the country unlawfully, were also apprehended. To ensure the safety of base residents during the incident, a cordon was established adjacent to the base housing.
This incident at Laughlin Air Force Base is not an isolated occurrence along the US border. Just last month, two Jordanian individuals suspected of potential ties to Al-Qaeda or ISIS were arrested for attempting to force their way onto the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia. According to ICE Washington spokesperson James Covington, both noncitizens were swiftly taken into custody by Marine Corps Base Quantico’s Criminal Investigations Division and then arrested by Deportation officers without any trouble.

The breach at Laughlin Air Force Base and the incident at Quantico Marine Corps Base highlight the problematic situation at the southern border. Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy noted that the current administration under President Biden has provided incentives for criminals, including suspected terrorists, to enter the United States. Roy claimed that 331 known or suspected terrorists were apprehended crossing the southern border since the beginning of the fiscal year 2021. He emphasized the administration’s failure to uphold its constitutional duty to secure the border, leading to an increasing influx of individuals affiliated with dangerous groups entering the country.
