A troubling incident in Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights has reignited concerns about the rise of antisemitic hate crimes and politically charged vandalism. Avi Ben Hamo, a Jewish man, discovered his Tesla Cybertruck defaced with a swastika and the name “Elon” spray-painted across its surface. The perpetrator, Michael Lewis, a self-proclaimed activist, carried out the act in broad daylight, leaving Ben Hamo and the local community shaken. This incident is part of a disturbing trend where political grievances and prejudice intersect, targeting both individuals and symbols of innovation.
The vandalism reflects broader hostility toward Elon Musk and Tesla vehicles, which have increasingly become targets of aggression from left-wing activists. Musk’s role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency under President Trump has fueled protests against his policies to cut government spending. Across the country, Tesla dealerships, charging stations, and vehicles have been vandalized in acts of political defiance. In New York City alone, this marks the third attack on a Tesla Cybertruck in recent weeks, underscoring the growing politicization of private property destruction.

Hate crimes against Jews in New York City remain disproportionately high, accounting for over half of all reported bias incidents in 2024.
