Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently discussed the notable changes in border security and immigration policies since President Donald Trump took office. He highlighted a swift transformation in operations aimed at securing the southern border, noting that the moment Trump took the oath of office, military forces were deployed, which significantly reduced illegal crossings almost immediately. Abbott credited this decisive action as the start of a new era in border security, emphasizing the collaboration between Texas and the federal government.
The current approach includes the deportation of individuals who cross the border illegally. Governor Abbott stated that Texas has ramped up its efforts, with hundreds of people being sent back to their home countries daily. This means that not only are individuals being returned to Mexico, but flights also transport them back to countries like Guatemala. Abbott emphasized that the Trump administration is actively working to ensure these countries accept their citizens, taking a firm stand on national security and public safety.
In Abbott’s view, the previous administration had opened the floodgates, allowing individuals onto U.S. soil who might pose a threat to public safety and national security. He pointed out that under the Biden administration, some individuals on terror watch lists were allowed to enter the country. An alarming issue raised during the discussion was the fate of 300,000 children lost under the Biden-Harris administration, a situation he described as nearly criminal. He lauded the Trump team for their efforts in locating and ensuring the safety of these vulnerable children. Abbott’s remarks drew a stark comparison between the two administrations, underscoring how essential it is to protect not just children but all Americans from the repercussions of misguided border policies.
Additionally, Abbott addressed crime caused by international gangs like Tren de Aragua. He proudly stated that Texas took decisive action by declaring this group a foreign terrorist organization last year. With support from Trump, who plans to implement similar measures at the federal level, Abbott expressed confidence that this would significantly reduce crime associated with such organizations.
