The Case for Securing Our Northern Border

In a world that seems increasingly untethered from traditional values, Canada’s policies have reached a new level of alarming. The Canadian government’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program is sparking widespread debate—and for good reason. What began as a policy to end the suffering of terminally ill patients has morphed into something deeply troubling. Just look at the tragic case of Keano Vafayen. This young man, only 26 and suffering from diabetes and seasonal depression, opted for assisted suicide. He wasn’t terminally ill, just fighting a manageable illness and a temporary mental health issue. And yet, his life was cut short under the guise of compassion.

Canada’s MAiD program, with its expanded criteria, now covers individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and soon, potentially, mental health conditions. The definition of “grievous and irremediable” conditions is worryingly broad. These vague criteria mean that individuals who are not facing imminent death are instead being offered a premature ticket out of life. It’s clear that the program is no longer about easing the suffering of those who are terminally ill; it’s about something else entirely, something much darker.

This government-endorsed practice raises questions about the value Canada places on human life. The country seems to have created a system where the solution for individuals facing struggles, whether physical or emotional, is to end their lives rather than provide the support and care they need. This perspective is not only distressing but also dangerous. If we’re not careful, we slide down a slippery slope where societal and governmental forces decide whose life is worth living. The numbers are staggering—with five percent of deaths in Canada attributed to euthanasia, it’s clear this is not an issue that can be ignored.

Canada’s policies don’t stop there. The nation has seen a disturbing trend of church burnings and a cavalier attitude toward religious persecution. Let’s not forget the taxpayer-funded infanticide. A country that allows abortion up until birth not only disregards the sanctity of life but actively endorses its destruction. In a world where moral compasses are rapidly spinning, Canada appears to be setting an incredibly dangerous precedent.

It’s time to question not just the laws but the moral foundation upon which these policies rest. The door to eugenics swings wide open if a society begins to decide who should live based on arbitrary criteria. Canada, our neighbor to the north, is charting a course that should trouble anyone who values human life. Whether it’s an unborn child, a disabled individual, or someone suffering from mental health issues, every life has intrinsic value. A society that forgets this is one that is heading down a perilous path. It’s high time the international community took notice and called for a return to sanity.
