This positive development may have been strategic, as the Republican Party is working to close the fundraising gap with President Joe Biden’s campaign.
During the call, Trump expressed his support for DeSantis and they discussed Trump’s love for golf. This exchange indicates that their relationship is on the mend, at least on the surface. The timing of the reconciliation is notable, considering Trump’s recent fundraising success compared to Biden’s campaign. In April, Trump raised $76 million, surpassing Biden’s $51 million, marking a significant shift in fundraising dynamics.

DeSantis has been actively fundraising for the Super PAC Right for America, which has garnered support from prominent Republican donors. The preference for DeSantis over Trump among certain donors underscores their willingness to invest in DeSantis’ political initiatives. The potential reconciliation between Trump and DeSantis aligns with the preferences of a segment of voters who showed a preference for DeSantis in a recent poll.
The political landscape in Florida continues to lean towards the right, as evidenced by the state’s support for Trump in the previous two presidential elections. The Cook Political Report has classified Florida as “Likely Republican” in the upcoming general election. Additionally, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, a prominent Republican figure, has publicly announced her support for Trump, further indicating a solidified backing within the GOP.
