Former President Donald Trump is still gaining momentum in his bid for the 2024 Republican nomination, and he’s now a whopping 50 points ahead of Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida. Trump’s popularity among GOP likely voters has risen to 63%, leaving DeSantis in a distant second place at 13%. Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley trails behind at 9%, according to the latest national Rasmussen Reports survey.
But it’s not all smooth sailing for Trump. The survey also took into account all voters considering voting in states with open primaries. When these voters are included, Trump’s lead drops to 50%, with DeSantis at 12% and Haley at 9%. It appears that having Democrats and independents participate in Republican primaries weakens Trump’s advantage.
Over? Trump widens lead over GOP rivals to 50 points

“While Trump enjoys a strong 63% support among self-identified Republican voters, he only garners 33% support from Democrats and 46% from unaffiliated voters who plan on participating in their state’s 2024 GOP primaries,” the analysis explained. It also pointed out that some of Trump’s competitors for the nomination, like DeSantis, Haley, and Chris Christie, draw a significant portion of their support from Democrats and unaffiliated voters.
This news undoubtedly reinforces Trump’s dominance within his party. With the 2024 election still years away, Trump continues to be the center of attention and the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. His strong support among Republicans shows that his message and policies continue to resonate with his base. One can only imagine the tremendous influence Trump will have on the campaign trail and in shaping the Republican Party’s future.
