The U.S. House of Representatives unexpectedly chose Louisiana Representative Mike Johnson as Speaker. This thrilling 22-day marathon kept the nation on edge. This coveted job was contested by several major GOP individuals, including former President Donald Trump, making it an exciting roller-coaster ride.
Trump said, "I just want to congratulate Mike Johnson. We were thrilled to help him become a wonderful House Speaker. From the beautiful state of Louisiana… He'll speak well, and you'll be proud." When Trump talks, it matters.

Johnson's victory was the first Republican partywide win since 2011's Speaker John Boehner election, adding to the enthusiasm. Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other GOP leaders received tremendous applause and standing ovations in the House, making it a historic event.
Johnson's road to the Speaker's chair was like a roller-coaster with unexpected turns. Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota appeared to have secured the conference candidacy, but he resigned owing to lack of party support and Trump's endorsement.
Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan failed to get establishment Republican backing before Emmer. Both failed to secure the position. Rounds of voting intensified after Emmer's departure. Reps. Byron Donalds of Florida, Johnson, and late entrant Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California were chosen after eight fierce battles. Donalds' backing helped Johnson win.
