According to recently published information, Special Counsel Jack Smith was engaged in the IRS affair involving Lois Lerner.
Attorney General Garland made the nomination of Smith public three days after President Trump made the decision to declare his intention to compete for reelection to the White House in 2024.
The 45th and current President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, went to the platform Truth Social on Sunday and referred to Smith as a “political hitman.”
In addition, he said that Smith does not meet the requirements to work for the Justice Department, and he mentioned that the department itself has become corrupt and armed.
Members of the Republican Party have been critical of Smith for his involvement with Lerner’s attempts to target conservative non-profit organizations when Smith was working for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
The newly hired lawyer is scheduled to head an inquiry into the protests that took place on January 6 and will also continue the investigation into the raid at the Mar-a-Lago estate.
