In the latest chapter of American political theater, President-elect Donald Trump has put to rest all doubts regarding his comeback with a decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, an outcome that sent shockwaves through the liberal bubble. Polls leading up to the election may have painted a picture of a closely contested race, but anyone with a pulse on reality could see Trump’s triumph coming from a mile away. The pivotal victories in swing states like North Carolina and Georgia sealed the deal early on Election Night, much to the astonishment of the Harris camp.
Pollsters, however, seem to have missed the memo. A fresh poll from The Economist/YouGov revealed that only 22 percent of registered voters were “very surprised” by Trump’s win, while the vast majority—52 percent—were either “not very surprised” or “not surprised at all.” A stark contrast emerged among Harris supporters, with nearly 38 percent expressing complete shock at his victory. Clearly, they were not tuning in to the same election predictions as the rest of the country. It’s a classic case of cognitive dissonance where the left seemingly wandered into the voting booth with their eyes closed.
As the election shook out, polls indicated that 58 percent of respondents felt that Harris received fewer votes than they expected, including a staggering 82 percent of her own voters. Meanwhile, a significant share of Trump supporters, 38 percent, acknowledged the Vice President did not live up to expectations. This trend of denial among Harris voters not only highlights their unshakeable belief in her candidacy but also raises eyebrows about their grip on political reality. It would be amusing if it weren’t concerning—the cognitive disarray among the left was palpable.
Adding fuel to the comedy was Harris’s handling of her loss, reminiscent of another political disaster: Hillary Clinton’s 2016 defeat. Instead of addressing her supporters directly, a male staffer was sent out to deliver the news of her loss. Harris finally made an appearance over 24 hours later, and like magic, the tears from her dejected base were instantly noticeable. The Democrats couldn’t help but show off their characteristic penchant for mishandling real-time political turmoil.

Interestingly, the enthusiasm gap painted an upbeat picture for Trump supporters. A whopping 77 percent reported feeling “enthusiastic” about the results. In stark contrast, 66 percent of Harris voters were left feeling “upset,” proving yet again that optimism tends to thrive on the right side of the political spectrum. Results from another YouGov poll confirmed that 25 percent of responders were “thrilled,” while 20 percent were “devastated,” and it’s no surprise that a good chunk of those devastated individuals resided in the Democrat camp, including quite a few octogenarians who don’t even benefit from the abortion policies they so fervently support.
To round off this notable electoral episode, the question of divisiveness in American politics came under scrutiny. A striking 58 percent of surveyed adults deemed this election more divisive than those in the past, with Democrats leading the charge at 64 percent. One can only chuckle at this level of irony, given that it was their nominee who branded opposition as fascist and Nazis. The Democrats sure have a peculiar way of defining “unity” while simultaneously rallying cries against half the electorate.
In essence, this election was not just a victory for Trump; it was also a clarifying moment on the state of American politics. The sheer disbelief among Harris supporters exemplifies an overwhelming detachment from reality, while Trump supporters bask in the glow of their leader’s return to political prominence. As they say, reality has its ways of being exceedingly difficult for some to accept.
