He made the point that, thanks to past administrations, the U.S. has allowed Iran to enrich uranium far beyond what is necessary for civilian energy needs. The senator expressed a sense of urgency, claiming that should Iran cross a certain threshold, they could create a stockpile of nuclear weapons in just a couple of weeks. This level of tension, he emphasized, puts the safety of American citizens directly in jeopardy.
As for the way forward, Graham is advocating for strong military action. He discussed the potential need for U.S. troops to take control of strategic locations, such as Car Island. While some in the media might question the wisdom of such actions, Graham put his faith in the military, specifically the Marines, citing their capability and history of success. His ultimate goal is to neutralize the Iranian threat completely, allowing for peace talks between Saudi Arabia and Israel that he believes could finally settle long-standing conflicts in the Middle East.
