Former President Donald Trump is not going down without a fight! In a bold move, Trump has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in his election interference case. You see, he’s claiming presidential immunity, which means he believes he can’t be prosecuted for any wrongdoing while he was in office. And boy, does he have a lot of wrongdoing to defend!

But let’s back up a bit. The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled that Trump is not immune from prosecution in the case brought by special counsel Jack Smith. They’re saying that once you’re out of the Oval Office, you’re just a regular citizen, and regular citizens can be held accountable for their actions. Shocking, isn’t it?
Now, Trump is asking the Supreme Court to put a pause on the ruling while he files an appeal. This means that his trial, which was supposed to be on March 4th (ironic, huh?), will be delayed even further. Judge Tanya Chutkan initially paused the trial when Trump first appealed, and now it’s just dragging on and on. Can’t he take a hint?
But here’s the kicker: during the oral arguments in January, one of the judges actually questioned Trump’s attorney about whether his immunity argument would allow a president to order the assassination of a political rival. Yikes! Talk about a nightmare scenario. I’m sorry, but no president should be above the law, even if they really, really wanted to take out their competition.
In the end, it seems like the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge Chutkan aren’t buying Trump’s presidential immunity defense. And honestly, why should they? Being president doesn’t give you a free pass to break the law. It’s like trying to use your position as hall monitor to steal extra cookies during lunch – it just doesn’t fly.
So, while Trump may be hoping for a last-minute save from the Supreme Court, it’s time for him to face the consequences of his actions. No one should be immune from justice, no matter how powerful they once were. The American people deserve accountability, and it’s about time they get it.
