Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to continue deploying concertina wire along the U.S. border with Mexico near Eagle Pass has garnered significant support from Republicans across the country. Even former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the matter, expressing his full support for Abbott and urging other state governors to join in the efforts to protect the state’s sovereignty.
In a strongly worded statement, Trump criticized President Biden for what he sees as a failure to secure the border, labeling it a “massive invasion” of illegal migrants. He applauded Texas for invoking the Invasion Clause of the Constitution and called for the deployment of National Guard troops from other states to assist in repelling the invasion.

Furthermore, Trump promised a drastic change in approach if re-elected, stating that he would work closely with Abbott and other border states to “stop the invasion” and initiate the largest domestic deportation operation in history. His message was clear: Those who have entered illegally under Biden’s watch should not feel secure, as they will inevitably be sent back to their home countries.
Not only did Trump voice his support, but the Republican Governors Association (RGA) also issued a statement signed by 25 out of 27 Republican governors, standing with Abbott and Texas. The RGA criticized the Biden administration for its failure to uphold the rule of law and secure the border, accusing them of allowing illegal immigrants, drugs, and terrorists to freely enter the country. The statement called for the use of “every tool and strategy,” including the use of razor wire fences, to protect the border.
Other elected officials, such as Texas Rep. Chip Roy and House Speaker Mike Johnson, have also expressed their approval of Abbott’s decision. Roy likened Texas to a homeowner facing a break-in and argued that in such circumstances, immediate action is necessary. He emphasized the importance of defending oneself and dealing with legal questions later.
With significant support from Republicans nationwide, Abbott remains resolute in his commitment to protect Texas and its citizens. The battle over border security continues, and it appears that Abbott has a strong force behind him.
