Trump Leads GOP with Sage Advice Amid Shutdown Threats

Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform late Sunday evening to express his thoughts on the upcoming government shutdown. In typical Trump fashion, he didn’t hold back, slamming congressional Republicans for their past efforts to stop President Biden’s agenda. Trump made it clear that he believed whoever is President will be blamed for the shutdown, with a particular dig at “Crooked (as Hell!) Joe Biden.” And he’s not alone in his thinking.

According to an ABC News/Washington Post poll, 40 percent of Americans would “chiefly blame” Biden and the Democrats for a shutdown, while only 33 percent would blame congressional Republicans. Trump then went on to attack the Democrats, labeling them as “Radical Left Marxists, Fascists, and Thugs.” He urged House Republicans to shut down the government if they don’t get everything they want, including closing the border and ending alleged election interference.

But Trump didn’t stop there. He also took a swipe at Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, calling him the “weakest, dumbest, and most conflicted ‘Leader’ in U.S. Senate history.” Congress will soon return from recess, with less than 150 hours to avoid a shutdown. However, the outlook doesn’t seem very optimistic, as previous attempts to pass spending bills in the House were unsuccessful. Trump’s message to McConnell and the Republicans is clear: It’s time to learn how to fight and bring in new Republican leadership.
