Trump Muses Canada Joining US as Trudeau Drama Unfolds

The announcement of Justin Trudeau’s intention to resign has echoed throughout the political landscape, and no one has executed a more entertaining freakout than former President Donald Trump. In an apparent act of trolling that would make any social media manager proud, Trump took to Truth Social to muse over the troubled waters of Canadian politics, insinuating that many Canadians might relish the idea of joining the United States as its 51st state. Amid plummeting poll numbers for Trudeau’s Labour Party, the timing couldn’t have been more poetic.

With Trudeau stepping down due to formidable pressures from within his own camp, one can’t help but wonder about the potential benefits of a good ol’ American annexation. Imagine a Canada without tariffs, where taxes are slashed instead of hiked, and Canadians feel safer from the ominous shadows cast by Russian and Chinese naval forces that seem to enjoy a game of “who can provoke North America first.” Just think of the maple syrup-flavored freedom!

Trudeau’s press conference felt more like a reality TV show elimination than an actual political event. The prime minister rambled on about family reflections and personal achievements, sounding more like a contestant explaining why they should stay in the game rather than a leader owning up to his failures. Everyone knows that simply citing family support isn’t going to breathe life back into a collapsing political career, no matter how many dinners one has had to discuss it.

Trudeau’s reign is best remembered for its missteps—most notably during the COVID-19 pandemic when the government unleashed a series of draconian lockdowns and vaccine mandates. The backlash culminated in the Freedom Convoy, where truckers creatively expressed their discontent and learned firsthand just how quickly government overreach can escalate. Trudeau’s reputation hit rock bottom as he invoked the Emergencies Act to subdue those pesky dissenters, proving that in Canadian politics, a heavy-handed approach truly isn’t the answer.

With the Labour Party poised for a potential drubbing at the hands of the Conservatives led by Pierre Poilievre, it is clear that the Canadian electorate is eager for a change. Trudeau’s resignation is merely the icing on a rather wilted cake, and one can’t help but think that a merger with the U.S. might just be what the doctor ordered—at least if Trudeau continues to stumble, Canadians might consider swapping out their Prime Minister for a good dose of American exceptionalism. Who wouldn’t want to trade in a prime minister for a president?
