Trump Plans to Detain Migrants at Guantanamo Bay Amidst Criticism

President Trump has decided that what’s good for terrorists might also be good for illegal migrants, ordering his administration to prepare Guantanamo Bay for the detention of tens of thousands of them. It seems like a logical solution—if Guantanamo can handle suspected terrorists, surely it can take a few illegal aliens off the street. This move aims to bolster his grand plan for immigration enforcement, which has been about as popular with leftists as a salad at a barbecue.

The Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, well-known for its use as a detention center for terrorists, is now being eyed as a potential holding ground for illegal migrants. President Trump recently revealed plans to construct a facility that could house up to 30,000 of those individuals in a location distinct from where the more notorious detainees languish. Given the hysteria surrounding illegal immigration, it’s almost entertaining to witness the left scramble to express their outrage while simultaneously ignoring the earlier precedent set by the Clinton administration when they housed thousands of Haitians at the same base. Apparently, when the Democrats do it, it’s humanitarian. When Trump does it, it’s brutality.

Trump stated that this action would increase the nation’s capability to detain and deport the most dangerous criminal aliens who pose a significant threat to American safety. This proactive approach is refreshing in a world where many other politicians would rather bury their heads in the sand like ostriches. The White House went so far as to instruct the Departments of Homeland Security and Defense to “take all appropriate actions” to ramp up their detention capabilities. If the goal is to clear the streets of individuals engaged in criminal activity, then Guantanamo Bay is ready to step up to the plate.

Critics of the Laken Riley Act, which aims to imprison illegal migrants accused of crimes like theft, are already howling that such a large-scale undertaking will overwhelm detention facilities. They clearly haven’t been paying attention. Trump’s plan promises to double capacity overnight—talk about efficiency! Meanwhile, military assets have already been deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border to enforce immigration laws, marking a determined shift toward utilizing every tool available to manage the situation.

The backlash from some quarters has been predictable. Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel even had the gall to label the move as “an act of brutality.” It’s almost audacious for a regime known for human rights abuses to critique America’s attempts at enforcing law and order. But let’s face it; when you have a security issue on your hands, sometimes it involves tough choices. If that means looking to Guantanamo Bay to ensure the safety and security of American citizens, then so be it.
