Former President Donald Trump, known for his outspokenness and uncanny ability to stir the political pot, made waves again today when he decided to throw shade at House Majority Whip Tom Emmer’s bid for House speaker. Trump, who had previously stated that he wouldn’t get involved in the race for the position, took to his beloved social media site, Truth Social, to air his grievances.
In a characteristically bold and somewhat comical post, President Trump expressed his disdain for Emmer, whom he referred to as a “RINO” (Republican In Name Only). Trump claimed that Emmer never truly appreciated the power of a Trump endorsement and accused him of spending more time defending Ilhan Omar than supporting the former president. Ouch!
While Emmer may have claimed to have seen the light and become a pro-Trump advocate, Trump remained skeptical. “Has he only changed because that’s what it takes to win?” Trump questioned. And he wasn’t about to let Emmer forget his transgressions, warning that voting for a “globalist RINO” like him would be a “tragic mistake” for the Republican Party.

It’s worth noting that Emmer did manage to win the nomination for speaker after beating out eight other Republicans in a series of secret ballots. However, with more than two dozen GOP members voicing their disapproval, Emmer faces an uphill battle in securing the necessary 217 votes to claim the coveted gavel.
As for Trump, well, he claimed to be staying out of the race as much as possible, even jokingly referring to Emmer as his “biggest fan” after the latter called him over the weekend. But anyone familiar with Trump’s style knows that he’s never one to shy away from making his thoughts known.
Trump’s criticisms of Emmer range from his stance on gay marriage to his support for the debt ceiling agreement and his opposition to the Electoral College. And let’s not forget that Emmer certified the 2020 election, a move that Trump vehemently disagrees with and has repeatedly claimed was stolen from him.
In the end, whether or not Emmer can win over enough support remains to be seen. But one thing’s for certain: with Trump’s disapproval hanging over his head, Emmer certainly has an uphill battle ahead of him. The Republican Party will have to carefully weigh their options and consider whether Emmer truly represents the America First Voters they claim to champion. Only time will tell.
