In the latest episode of “California’s Got Problems,” President-elect Donald Trump has once again aimed his Twitter gun at Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing him of being the state’s firestarter—just not in the way one might expect. As the flames were engulfing thousands of acres in Los Angeles County, the former president didn’t hold back, pointing fingers at Newsom’s water policies like a kid who spilled grape juice all over his mom’s white carpet.
Trump’s rant on Truth Social was nothing short of vintage Trump. He placed the blame squarely on Newsom for rejecting a federal plan back in 2019 that promised to boost California’s water supply through increased pumping. A plan that, in the eyes of many, would have made all the difference during California’s fire season. Apparently, the governor thought it would be better to let the land of milk and honey bloom into a land of burning embers.
While Trump employed his characteristic flair—best summed up as “where there’s smoke, there’s Newsom”—he didn’t pull any punches when covering the inconvenient truth: the governor had a chance to sign a water restoration declaration that would have allowed millions of gallons from the North to flow into drought-stricken California. Instead, millions were left high and dry. Not exactly the leadership residents expect, especially when fire hydrants apparently prefer their water on vacation.
The backdrop of this scathing commentary is, of course, the destructive fires sweeping through California. A state that many come to for its sunny beaches and scenic vistas is currently battling a blaze that some officials claim is reminiscent of the apocalypse—only it seems the only thing burning brighter than the flames is Newsom’s incompetence. At least 1,000 structures have turned to ash, with a tragic loss of life, as winds whip through the state like a Democrat’s never-ending budget.

Adding to the absurdity, Newsom’s administration has opted to protect fish over its citizens. Yes, those infamous regulations aim to safeguard the Delta smelt, a fish that’s practically a punchline considering its near extinction. Trump’s characteristically colorful choice of words isn’t far off when he refers to this fish as “worthless.” Perhaps the governor should be reminded that fish don’t pay taxes or vote, making them a less than ideal priority in a state on fire.
As tensions rise and conditions deteriorate, it falls upon the governor’s shoulders to answer for the lack of action. Trump’s call to action is loud and clear: “Allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to flow into California!” With Trump ready to occupy the Oval Office once more, he has made it clear he has his sights set on not only holding Newsom accountable but also ensuring Californians are no longer left to rely on sandy desert policies to put out their very real fires. Another day, another Twitter storm, but this one feels particularly close to home for many who witness first-hand the fallout of liberal rule.
