Trump Surges Ahead in Polls as Economic Woes Haunt Harris and Biden Administration

Donald Trump appears to be enjoying a robust lead over Vice President Kamala Harris as the 2024 election approaches, and what’s the issue dominating the discussion? The economy. A recent poll conducted by CNN presents a rather uninspiring picture for Harris, as she trails Trump by an average of eight points, a statistic that effectively echoes the crumbling economic landscape under the Biden-Harris administration.

The depths of Harris’s unpopularity cannot be understated, especially when considering Trump’s impressive 16-point lead over her in Nevada regarding economic competence. This trend extends across seven swing states, where voters increasingly view Trump as the candidate with a solid, actionable plan for recovery. Meanwhile, Harris’s claim of being a competent steward of the economy rings a bit hollow as inflation and skyrocketing grocery prices weigh heavily on the minds (and wallets) of Americans.

As the disastrous economic policies put forth by the Biden administration roll on, everyday Americans are feeling the crunch. Take, for instance, the 147 percent spike in egg prices since Biden’s inauguration in January 2021. Yet when Kamala Harris steps in front of a microphone, her mantra remains disappointingly constant. She offers vague plans cloaked in buzzwords without addressing the hard facts: inflation is soaring, and trust in her ability to fix it is plummeting.

The rhetoric from Harris hasn’t changed; she still touts her “move forward” strategy, promising to tackle the rising cost of living and unemployment rates. Sadly, history has shown that talk is cheap, especially in light of record inflation. As she continues to promise a better tomorrow without backing it up with concrete policy initiatives, one must wonder why any American should believe her now when she had nearly four years to take action.

Just recently, Harris rolled out a set of new tax proposals for small businesses. Her plan to increase the federal small business tax deduction from $5,000 to $50,000 has left many scratching their heads. Critics argue this move merely shifts the burden around without significantly lowering the overall tax rates. If Harris is truly committed to helping small businesses thrive, one has to question her refusal to clarify exactly how these new deductions fit within a broader strategy to stimulate the economy.

Harris isn’t acting alone in her campaign of dodging hard questions; her fellow Democrat, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, showed that he too would rather avoid the pressing economic concerns of voters. At a recent campaign stop, a local resident pressed him about their administration’s plans to lower prices, only to receive a masterclass in evasion as Walz moved on without addressing the query. With Trump leading robustly across critical states like Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan, the apparent lack of coherent economic policy from Harris and her allies raises serious concerns about the Democrats’ ability to connect with ordinary Americans as the election draws near.
