Another day, another attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump. This time, the scene unfolded at his very own golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the 45th president could have been enjoying a round of golf, but instead found himself in the middle of what is now being termed as an “apparent assassination attempt.” Enter Ryan Wesley Routh, who has proven that some people will go to great lengths to get their 15 minutes of fame—though in his case, it looks more like he was trying for 15 seconds on the FBI’s most wanted list.
The Secret Service was conducting a routine sweep of the golf course when they spotted what looked like the barrel of a rifle poking through a fence. Rather than being the latest trendy accessory on the golf course, it turned out to be serious business. Following Routh’s swift retreat, law enforcement discovered not only an AK-style rifle complete with scopes but also a GoPro camera, just in case he wanted to film his attempt at a career in political assassination. Bravo, Ryan; at least he was prepared for the big moment, even if it seems he wasn’t prepared for the consequences of his actions.

The fallout from this incident has led to some inconvenient realities for the left. Despite their best efforts to dismiss this as a mere coincidence or to place the blame squarely back on Trump’s “rhetoric,” reality has a way of smacking them in the face. The Biden administration’s own DOJ labeled this event as an assassination attempt, yet the liberals have curiously opted not to call for gun control measures or hold a dramatic press conference denouncing political violence—probably because it was one of their own who was gearing up for a hit job.
The media’s hypocrisy was on full display. NBC News had the audacity to weave the narrative that Trump’s supposed “heated rhetoric” was to blame. As if words alone are potent enough to inspire such madness. While they were quick to point fingers, they neglected to address the irony that it was their side attempting to navigate the murky waters of political violence. Meanwhile, left-leaning outlets like MSNBC seized the opportunity to push for stricter gun control, conveniently ignoring Routh’s liberal alignment. Perhaps they think if they shout harder, people will forget who the real aggressors are.
As if the comedic elements of this saga weren’t enough, the saga of Routh’s motives slipped like a greased pig through the fingers of the mainstream media. With his social media pages scrubbed clean, the attempt to present him as a misunderstood, isolated individual falls flat when his online footprint clearly aligned with anti-Trump sentiment. It’s almost as if the left is circling the wagons to protect their narrative that such behavior is a rarity within their ranks. Spoiler alert: it’s not. While the Democrats proclaim loudly that “political violence has no place in our society,” one has to pause and wonder just whose side they’re really on when their own supporters are the ones pulling the triggers.
In the aftermath of this close call, it’s clear Trump is once again figuring prominently on the left’s radar. Irony strikes hard with CBS’ flagship program, 60 Minutes, choosing this exact moment to spotlight the January 6 riots—painting the former president as a threat to democracy after he narrowly escaped yet another assassination attempt. In the ever-dizzying circus of modern American politics, one has to wonder if it’s the left that has become the biggest joke of all.
