The House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight has concluded that she may have disrupted the judicial process by sneaking behind closed doors to talk to Cassidy Hutchinson without her lawyer present. One can’t help but chuckle at the irony here; a once-prominent Republican is now under the magnifying glass while the FBI could be warming up its rubber stamp for an investigation. Trump was quick to express his “gratitude” for Barry Loudermilk, the Georgia GOP representative who chaired the committee and seems to have carried out an investigation that lined up with what so many conservative Americans already suspected about Cheney. Instead of being the political superstar she once imagined, she’s now a poster child for why it might not be worth it to bite the hand that feeds you—or in her case, the man who might be returning to the White House soon.
The report also characterized Hutchinson’s more dramatic claims as “outlandish” and lacking the sturdy backbone of evidence. Who would have thought? An ex-White House aide claiming dramatic moments without solid proof. The same report takes aim at the January 6 Select Committee, once run by the theatrical Nancy Pelosi, accusing them of knowing that Hutchinson’s testimony was shaky yet still presenting it as gospel. Clearly, desperation leads to dangerous terrain for reputations.
