President-elect Donald Trump is set to shake things up regarding the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol protests, with promises to offer pardons to those he refers to as “political prisoners.” It’s a move that has many defendants holding their breath, hoping for a holiday miracle that comes in the form of a presidential pardon. Some have even urged their lawyers to postpone their trials, betting that once Trump is back in the Oval Office, he’ll make good on his word.
The Department of Justice, however, seems to be playing a game of legal chess, aiming to prosecute the worst offenders before Trump’s inauguration. This leftist-dominated DOJ is determined to score points by zeroing in on charges against individuals accused of serious crimes, particularly those who allegedly assaulted police officers during the infamous events of that day. It’s almost as if they think getting a few scalp trophies will spoil Trump’s plans for a grand pardon parade.
This is ridiculous – they are doubling down on J6 until Trump gets in office. Wouldn't you think the "most egregious" cases would have already been done and over with? It's been 4 years.

Despite all the official fracas, Trump has reiterated that he’s open to considering pardons for those caught up in the Capitol chaos. Perhaps the DOJ hopes that by swiftly prosecuting a handful of defendants, they might put a damper on Trump’s plans to swoop in heroically and rescue his supporters. After all, a good scandal often draws attention away from reality, and what could be more scandalous than a DOJ fixated on punishing alleged patriots rather than letting them go home free?
According to reports, the Justice Department will be selective in its prosecutions, opting to skip any arrests linked to misdemeanor charges. Predictably, they are focused on felony cases, particularly those that sound to them like red flags waving in the wind—a tactic likely aimed at painting the whole group with a single brush while enticing the news media to capture the narrative they want. They’ve got at least 75 alleged felons who could be snatched up, mostly for purported assaults on law enforcement. It’s almost as if they are trying to outdo themselves in Washington’s drama scene.
Time will tell whether the DOJ’s actions hold any real weight once Trump takes the stage again. With a track record of keeping promises, it seems likely that he might come through for his supporters, turning the DOJ’s efforts into a futile exercise. After all, if there’s one thing America has learned from Trump’s previous term, it’s that often the unintentional consequences of political maneuvering can be downright entertaining. With all the comings and goings in Washington, it almost feels like a soap opera is unfolding—and viewers can’t look away.
