Former President Donald Trump has been caught up in speculation about his choice for a running mate in the upcoming presidential election. After being asked about the possibility of selecting New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, Trump reportedly responded, “She’s a killer.” While no official confirmation has been made, eight unnamed sources have claimed that the Trump campaign and a growing group of allies have been considering Stefanik for the role.
Adding fuel to the fire, Stefanik recently announced that she would be traveling to New Hampshire to campaign with Trump against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. The most recent polling shows Trump ahead in the state, with Haley trailing behind and DeSantis far behind in single digits. According to former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon, Stefanik is the leading contender for the role.

One unnamed Republican campaign operative suggested that Trump values loyalty above all else due to feeling burned by his former vice president, Mike Pence. They stated, “If you’re Trump, you want someone who’s loyal above all else. Particularly because he sees Mike Pence as having made a fatal sin.” Stefanik, who previously worked on Sen. Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, has shifted to the right and is now considered one of Trump’s most important allies in the House of Representatives.
While the Trump campaign declined to comment on the speculation, Stefanik expressed her honor to call Trump a friend but did not comment on the possibility of running on the 2024 ticket. She previously stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that she would be “honored to serve in any capacity in a Trump administration.” With the 2024 election being deemed as crucial by many, the speculation surrounding Trump’s choice for a running mate is gaining attention and generating excitement among his supporters.
