Truth Social to Launch Live TV Service, Aims to Rival Netflix and Hulu

On Tuesday, Truth Social announced plans to compete with popular social media sites like X and Instagram. The company’s parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group, revealed its intention to launch a live TV streaming service targeted at conservatives. This move is seen as an effort to boost the company’s declining public stock following its initial public offering earlier this year.

The streaming service will be introduced in three phases, starting with availability on phones and websites, followed by over-the-top streaming services comparable to Netflix and Hulu, and ultimately expanding to home TVs. The focus of the content will include live TV, news networks, religious channels, family-friendly content, and other material that the company claims has been suppressed or cancelled by other platforms.

To enhance its user base, which currently stands at around 7 million users, Trump Media & Technology Group aims to attract more users. The success of the platform is deemed crucial for the company’s future performance. The company also indicated that any decline in President Trump’s popularity could negatively impact the platform’s operations, as Trump is under agreement to prioritize posting on Truth Social over other social media platforms.

While Truth Social has garnered attention, a survey revealed that only 2% of Americans actually use the platform, indicating room for growth. Other conservative platforms such as Gab, Parler, and Rumble exist in the shadow of more established sites, where conservatives claim their views are suppressed. Elon Musk, owner of X, has encouraged President Trump to return to the platform amidst Trump’s focus on Truth Social.

This news highlights the ongoing efforts by conservative figures and companies to establish themselves in the realm of social media amidst claims of bias and censorship. It underscores the importance of providing alternative platforms for individuals who feel marginalized by mainstream social media sites.
