Democratic Rep. Lauren Underwood of Illinois must be living in a fantasy world if she’s heaping praise on Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for his so-called “historic” performance while turning a blind eye to the chaos at the southern border. It’s like congratulating a firefighter for starting a blazing inferno! Underwood’s love fest with Mayorkas at the House hearing conveniently ignored the glaring issue of illegal immigrants pouring into the country in droves. Maybe she needs a reality check or a map to remind her where the border is!

The fact that Underwood commended Mayorkas for seizing fentanyl and ensuring traveler safety while glossing over the border crisis is like applauding a chef for burning the main course but getting the breadsticks just right. With millions of migrants streaming across the border, it’s clear that Mayorkas’ “historic” performance is more like a historic disaster! It’s disappointing to see a representative prioritize political theatrics over the safety and security of American citizens.
Underwood’s remarks about Mayorkas exceeding goals for hiring women in law enforcement and protecting children online might sound impressive, but let’s not forget that the primary duty of the Department of Homeland Security is to secure the homeland – including that pesky border that seems to have slipped Underwood’s mind! It’s great that Mayorkas is ticking boxes in other areas, but when the border resembles a turnstile rather than a secure barrier, it’s time to reassess priorities.
The House’s decision to impeach Mayorkas by a slim margin speaks volumes about the growing frustration with his leadership. Claiming that the border is secure while millions of migrants pass through is like claiming the Titanic was just taking a leisurely swim in the ocean. The numbers don’t lie – encountering 2.2 million migrants in one year and 2 million the next is not a sign of robust border security. Mayorkas may be good at spinning narratives, but he seems to be spinning out of touch with reality.
It’s clear that Rep. Underwood’s glowing accolades for Secretary Mayorkas are misguided at best and downright irresponsible at worst. By downplaying the crisis at the southern border, she’s doing a disservice to her constituents and the country as a whole. It’s time for our leaders to put politics aside and address the pressing issue of illegal immigration head-on. It’s not enough to just seize drugs and rescue children – we need a secure border to protect our nation’s sovereignty and safety.
