Venezuela stands as a lesson the left would rather ignore. The notion that regime change never works is a tired tale spun by liberals who selectively forget history. Remember Germany and Japan? Their transformation was nothing short of miraculous, thanks to a society that knew how to uphold law and order even after their governments were dismantled. But the left, incapable of learning from the past, would rather bury these success stories to push their own failed narratives.
The doom and gloom, hand-wringing crowd endlessly proclaims that regime change is doomed to fail. Yet, they fail to grasp why Iraq and Afghanistan were different animals altogether. Those nations are patchwork tapestries of tribes and factions, with no underlying cultural framework to stitch them into the modern world. Creating order out of chaos requires a foundation, something Iraq and Afghanistan lacked, and something Venezuela had—before socialist tyranny gutted it like a prize catch.

Venezuela, unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, possesses what could be called a cultural memory. Before Chavez turned the nation into his socialist playground, Venezuela enjoyed a functioning legal system, respect for contracts, and the rule of law. But what Chavez captured was a functioning society underpinned by impersonal trust—an idea alien to the left. They cling to the fantasy that you can simply impose democratic institutions on a society accustomed to personal loyalties.
Trump understands this distinction. Unlike past administrations, he’s not interested in some half-baked nation-building exercise. He’s focused on removing the criminals who destroyed trust in Venezuela. This is not nation-building; it’s a clean-up operation. Trump’s strategy is the antithesis of the left’s naive belief in universalism. Real change comes from within, and Trump’s approach? It’s not meddling. It’s a masterclass in cultural literacy.
Liberals are stuck in their echo chambers, babbling about ‘trust’ as an abstract notion. But they don’t realize it’s the bedrock of any society that hopes to function. Without it, laws are just paper tigers. But with it, nations can rebuild and flourish anew. Venezuela has the memories and the scars. Don’t doubt its ability to recover. The country’s future doesn’t rely on leftist ideologies or empty gestures; it takes real cultural understanding, and that’s what places Venezuela within reach of something greater. Aren’t we tired of failed policies masked as progress?
