Vice President JD Vance made headlines during his recent trip to the U.S. Southern Border, presenting his bold ideas on how Mexico’s cooperation could lead to the uplifting of the Trump administration’s tariffs. It seems the vice president isn’t shy about calling out Mexico’s responsibility in curbing the flow of fentanyl, the substance that’s tragically become the leading cause of death among young Americans.
Vance took the opportunity to remind everyone that for those shiny 25 percent tariffs to be reconsidered, Mexico needs to crank up its border security efforts. It’s clear that the vice president believes the solution starts south of the border, where the drug cartels are reaping profits while American families suffer. He pointed out that fentanyl production starts with precursors from China, which then make their way to Mexico, where the real magic—of the deadliest kind—happens. Given the current situation, it’s no wonder Vance is eager to apply “as much leverage as possible” to the Mexican government.
One can’t help but smile at the picture he painted: a concerned President prioritizing the safety of Americans while simultaneously being a good neighbor to Mexico. He emphasized the dire need for Mexico to rein in those rogue cartels, arguing that otherwise, the everyday citizens of Mexico might find themselves living in a narco-state where drug lords eclipse government authority. Perhaps Vance should send over a few “How To Be a Legitimate Government 101” pamphlets to Mexico.

In other news, the border is experiencing some unexpected relief, with a sharp drop in migrant apprehensions right when it seemed everything was spiraling out of control. Reports showed a staggering decrease, with numbers falling by a third in just one month. When January ticked away, the daily average of migrant apprehensions dropped from an alarming 2,000 to just 786. It’s almost as if the new administration was doing something right—could it be a happy side effect of a strong border policy? Who would have thought?
The focus on real, practical solutions to the border crisis contrasts sharply with past administrations. It seems that while some politicians resort to vague promises and ineffective platitudes, the Trump administration, and by extension Vance, is focused on tangible actions. With a name like Vance in the vice presidency, conservative Americans might just feel a frosty breeze of hope—there’s someone in Washington that keeps their eyes trained on securing the border and prioritizing their constituents over political correctness.
