What is it with Adrienne Elrod still having a job anyway? The spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris makes it seem like the vice president is running a bustling schedule, when in reality, Harris had a day so wide-open that even a raccoon could throw a party on it. That’s right, Elrod recently admitted on CNN that Harris had zero appointments lined up for the day. John Berman, the CNN host probably trying to feign journalistic inquiry, pressed Elrod about the glaring lack of activity. The smooth-talking Elrod insisted that Harris was busy “talking to voters and getting her message out there.” But let’s be honest—when there’s nothing on the schedule, one can’t help but wonder: what message is she getting out there?
In an incredible display of doublethink, Elrod claimed that Harris was actively engaging with people while simultaneously having a calendar that looked more barren than a ghost town. Even Time Magazine, on a good day, had rolled out the red carpet for the vice president with a fawning profile, and she somehow couldn’t be bothered to reciprocate with a simple interview. Instead of showing some gratitude to a media outlet that practically pats her on the back with every article, Harris opted to remain mum. Maybe she was busy pretending that her to-do list was filled with important stuff—but the truth is, it wasn’t.

Adding to the circus, Elrod also outran her own credibility by muddying the waters on Harris’s stance regarding taxes on tips. Apparently, the Kamala campaign tried to sell a line claiming that no tax on tips was solely Harris’s “own agenda.” One can only ask if that’s a secret agenda because it’s certainly not out in the open, nor even something the average American recognizes as modern-day policy. If this is the bold new direction of the Democratic Party, it’s safe to say many are left bewildered, and that includes taxpayers.
Elrod isn’t winning any awards for communication prowess, either. During the G8 Summit in June, she tried to handle the public relations fallout from a notorious clip where Joe Biden wandered off aimlessly, only to be rescued by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Rather than confronting reality, Elrod attempted to sell some dubious narrative about Biden’s jaunt, which was more uncomfortable to watch than a one-man show in an empty theater. The European media, however, was literary salivating over the absurdity and latched onto the president’s apparent mental lapse, making her spin look all the more futile.
And while some might think Elrod ought to be fired for her questionable handling of a spate of bad news, it is worth noting that she’s simply doing the bidding of a party that seems to be running out of ideas. When she was asked about candidate cognitive functions—and how they factor into voting decisions—her response was sheer bewilderment. One might imagine that there are a few things she’d rather not understand, especially as President Biden decided to bow out of the race last July. This leaves one to ponder how long Elrod can continue spitting out nonsense without a hint of accountability. If this is what passes for Democratic leadership, Americans deserve better.
