This tariff, starting on February 1st, could escalate to a whopping 25% come June 1st. The President believes that acquiring Greenland is pivotal for the security of the nation and is using these tariffs as a leverage tool to encourage a deal. The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, weighed in on the situation following the President’s announcement, addressing criticisms from various corners, including experts from the United Nations. These experts condemned the U.S. rhetoric, suggesting it echoed a bygone era of colonialism. Critics, particularly from the left, have raised alarms about potential diplomatic fallout from this tariff plan. They argue that alienating allies could lead to NATO’s destabilization and put America on precarious footing internationally. Waltz spoke critically about the Iranian regime’s actions and emphasized the resolve of the Trump administration to ensure national security in the face of ongoing threats. He pointed out that the regime has been wasting resources on terrorism and nuclear ambitions while their people suffer. The Iranian leadership was promptly called out, with the Ambassador noting that they have shown their true colors again as unrest in the nation continues to rise.
