The White House responds to allegations of a growing “space” between the United States and Israel, refuting claims of any strain in their relationship due to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. Despite the mounting civilian casualties, the U.S. has stood firmly behind Israel’s air raids against Hamas targets in Gaza, with the death toll already surpassing 10,000. However, due to Hamas’s control of the ministry, the Biden administration has questioned the accuracy of the reported total.

In a briefing at the White House, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby downplayed any slight differences in the governments’ public statements, emphasizing the continued close relationship between the U.S. and Israel. Kirby assured reporters that the United States remains fully supportive of Israel’s efforts to eliminate the threat to their people and sovereignty, pledging ongoing security assistance. He made it clear that any differences in opinion should not be seen as a backing away from Israel or a reduction in support for their actions.
President Joe Biden, however, is facing growing opposition within the country over the U.S. support for Israel’s operations in Gaza. His backing from Muslim and Arab Americans has significantly decreased since the conflict began on October 7th. While the White House remains steadfast in their support for Israel, Biden himself has applied pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to adhere to the rules of war while confronting Hamas.

It is essential to hold all parties accountable for their actions, and Biden’s approach strikes a balance between supporting Israel and promoting a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
