In today’s world, there’s an ever-growing chorus that clamors about how all people are the same, but let’s stop and really think about this. The mantra that everyone is equal is repeated endlessly, as if it’s some magical phrase that will instantly solve every societal issue. Yet, in reality, this idea falls apart under the slightest scrutiny. People are fundamentally different in countless ways, and it’s time to face this truth, not shy away from it.
Firstly, consider the undeniable fact that individuals differ physically. No observer in good conscience can truly argue that people are physically identical. It’s seen in the varied abilities that people display, whether in sports, dance, or even everyday tasks. These differences are not something to be overlooked or swept under the rug as progressives often advocate. It’s these very differences that contribute to the diversity of skills and talents that enrich communities.
Moreover, people vary remarkably in intelligence and skills. Anyone who’s ever worked in a group setting knows that people bring different strengths to the table. Some are gifted in mathematics, others in art or literature. Yet, we live in a climate where acknowledging such diversity is frowned upon lest it disrupt the politically correct narrative. But, frankly, what makes society vibrant is precisely this blend of unique abilities and perspectives.
When it comes to personalities, virtues, and values, the variety amongst human beings grows even more apparent. Not all hold the same virtues or share the same vices. Some prioritize family, others career; some value honesty while others might see ambition as the greatest virtue. It’s time everyone acknowledges these differences instead of clinging to the illusion of uniformity.
The only real equality that can be attributed to people is not something tangible. It is found in the spiritual realm, as taught by our Christian faith. Here, all human beings are valued equally, created and loved by God. This spiritual truth touches on dignity and human worth, valuable principles that should guide interactions and policies. However, equating spiritual equality to physical or intellectual equality misses the essence of this teaching.
In realizing these truths, there lies the opportunity for societal growth. Instead of pursuing an impossible standard of equality, embracing individual differences leads to a stronger, more authentic community. It’s time to question stale narratives and see the world as it truly is, fostering real respect and understanding based on authentic values rather than dictated sameness.
