American Truckers Under Siege as Illegal Foreign Drivers Steal Their Jobs

American truckers are under attack right now, but it’s not from some foreign enemy overseas — it’s from inside our own borders. Illegal foreign drivers are exploiting loopholes and ripping off hardworking U.S. truckers, driving down wages and stealing jobs right out from under them. This is more than just a paperwork issue or a “technicality.” It’s outright lawbreaking that’s crushing honest American workers and sending a loud message that America no longer protects its own.

The trucking industry is sounding the alarm. Our largest trucking association has had enough of the reckless and illegal practice known as cabotage—where foreigners haul freight between points inside the U.S. without authorization. Mexican drivers, hired under sketchy arrangements, are illegally running domestic loads, undercutting real American drivers who follow the rules and pay their dues. Companies willing to break the law by hiring cheap, unauthorized labor are grabbing millions, tossing aside the sanctity of fair competition, and driving honest operators to the brink of collapse. This isn’t some isolated hustle. It’s a pattern of lawlessness deeply intertwined with political and bureaucratic blindness that keeps our borders porous and our industries vulnerable.

Our laws have long made it clear: Mexican and Canadian trucks can cross the border with loads, but they cannot pick up and deliver freight here at home. Yet, because of weak enforcement and a cavalier attitude from the powers that be, this rule is flagrantly ignored. Back in 2019, two Arizona trucking companies got caught red-handed making millions by employing unauthorized Mexican drivers to haul freight domestically. Those companies broke the law and got rightly convicted, but how many more are still getting away with this? The increase in complaints says plenty.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration’s efforts to tighten standards and secure our borders have brought a rare shred of hope. Tougher English requirements for commercial drivers and a crackdown on reckless licensing prevented some disasters and kept our roads safer. But the current administration needs to take this fight all the way—dedicate more resources, punish offenders harder, and stop the callous exploitation of American workers. DHS must act decisively to enforce the law instead of turning a blind eye to these dangerous and destructive violations.

If America wants to keep its economy strong and protect its working class, it must end this foreign driver exploitation now. Otherwise, illegal cabotage will continue to bleed the trucking industry dry and hammer American families trying to get ahead. When will Washington stop putting foreign interests and globalist greed ahead of American lives and livelihoods? The answer should be simple—it’s time to put American truckers first or surrender our highways and jobs forever.
