Axelrod Slams Biden Yet Again, Shines Light on Campaign’s Age Issue

In a recent interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Democratic strategist David Axelrod didn’t hold back in criticizing President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign. Specifically, Axelrod mentioned the “age issue” as a concern. Now, before we dive into Axelrod’s comments, let’s take a moment to appreciate the fact that he worked as a strategist for former President Barack Obama. If that doesn’t scream “partisanship,” I don’t know what does!

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Axelrod emphasized that Biden’s age is something that can’t be reversed, no matter how effective he may be behind the scenes. And let’s be honest, even those who support Biden can’t help but raise an eyebrow when they see him in front of the camera. It’s like watching your grandpa try to figure out how to use a smartphone – endearing, but not exactly confidence-inspiring.

But Axelrod didn’t just pull this concern out of thin air. He backed it up with some polls. A New York Times/Siena College poll last week showed that a whopping 71% of voters think Biden is “too old” to be an effective commander in chief. Ouch! And a CNN poll released shortly after revealed that only 25% of people believe Biden has the “stamina and sharpness” to be an effective president. In comparison, 53% felt that way about former President Donald Trump. Talk about a confidence booster!

Now, before all you Biden supporters start getting defensive, Axelrod did acknowledge that there are other issues his campaign could potentially overcome. Things like inflation and the looming presence of Trump could still put Biden in the White House for another term. But let’s not brush off the age issue so easily. It’s a difficult challenge, and Axelrod believes that Rep. Dean Phillips is trying to exploit it. Phillips, by the way, is the guy who launched his own presidential bid against Biden, calling for the president to step down and let a new generation take over. Someone’s feeling confident, huh?

In any case, it’s worth mentioning that Biden is currently 80 years old. If he were to serve a second term, he would be a ripe 86 by the time it ends. Now, I’m not one to question age, but that’s just a statistic for you to ponder.

Oh, and just to add a sprinkle of controversy to this whole saga, Axelrod caused quite the commotion when he suggested in a post on X that Biden should consider if being the Democratic nominee is really a wise decision. Of course, he quickly clarified that he wasn’t telling Biden to drop out. But come on, a little dramatic flair never hurt anyone, right?

So, there you have it. Biden’s age is once again in the spotlight, and it’s causing some concern within his own party. Will this be the dent in his armor that Republicans have been waiting for? Who knows, but the drama surrounding it is certainly entertaining. Stay tuned, folks!
