The Biden administration has once again found itself in hot water, as critics continue to point fingers at the release of illegal aliens who then go on to commit heinous crimes. Just last week, the magnifying glass was turned on a particularly disturbing case in Maryland, where a migrant, freshly freed by Border Patrol, was accused of murdering a young woman.
The alleged murderer, 23-year-old Gerber Luis Sanchez Centeno, allegedly took the life of 18-year-old Dania Cruz-Mejia. This tragedy began with Centeno’s brief stint in custody back in June when Border Patrol agents apprehended him in New Mexico. Instead of being deported, he was handed an electronic ankle monitor and placed in the much-touted Alternatives to Detention program, allowing him the freedom to roam as he pleased. Surprise! He eventually slipped away, proving that the only thing more negligent than this program is trusting it to keep Americans safe.

These are the animals coming to a town near you so long as Kamala is in charge of the border.

Details continue to emerge about the local leadership’s complicity in this mess. Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich had previously signed an executive order in 2019, effectively handcuffing local law enforcement by restricting cooperation with ICE. One couldn’t help but wonder if this man was more focused on saving face for the left than on protecting his constituents. If local law enforcement had any say about it, perhaps they could have kept Centeno’s murderous tendencies at bay. But, alas, Elrich’s order appears to have been a convenient way to excuse their inadequate response.
In a twist of irony, Centeno’s arrest by the Montgomery County Police came on the heels of another ICE operation—this time in Massachusetts. Here, agents rounded up 30-year-old Angel Gabriel Deras, a documented gang member who had also made his way into the U.S. illegally. Deras, who had connections to a well-known transnational criminal organization, was caught just as the patriotic folks at ICE were ramping up their efforts to boost public safety. One can’t help but chuckle (if it weren’t so serious) at the contrast between local leaders’ priorities and the efforts of federal agencies trying to right their wrongs.
Voter sentiment is clearly leaning in a different direction than the Biden administration’s approach to border safety. A recent Scripps News/Ipsos Poll found that 54% of respondents enthusiastically support mass deportation of illegal aliens, echoing the bold and gutsy measures outlined by former President Donald Trump. With immigration and border security landing in the top tier of voter concerns—only falling short of inflation—it’s evident that Americans are starting to see through the thin veil of promises made by politicians who have consistently failed to deliver safety and security.
And when it comes to public trust on border issues, Trump is significantly ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris. One might argue that while Harris is busy focusing on her plans for the future, the American people are eyeing a different kind of plan—one that doesn’t include more illegal aliens slipping through the cracks and creating chaos. The Biden administration may want to reconsider its stance before the next poll exposes even more of its failures.
