President Joe Biden’s approval ratings are plummeting as Americans voice their dissatisfaction with his handling of the top two issues facing the nation. According to an Economist/YouGov poll, a whopping 97 percent of respondents find inflation or rising prices to be important, with 77 percent considering it very important. Similarly, 85 percent of respondents see immigration as an important issue, including 56 percent who find it to be very important.
However, Biden’s performance on these critical issues is far from impressive. A mere 29 percent approve of his approach to inflation, with a staggering 62 percent expressing disapproval. Among independents, only 17 percent approve of his handling of inflation, while 72 percent disapprove.
The situation isn’t any better for Biden when it comes to immigration. His approval rating on this issue stands at a dismal 29 percent, with a strong majority of 61 percent disapproving of his performance. Even among independents, just 17 percent view his approach to immigration favorably, with a significant 69 percent holding negative opinions.
The poll paints a bleak picture for the president’s overall approval rating, with a mere 36 percent of respondents expressing approval and a striking 59 percent voicing disapproval. The majority of Americans find the state of the economy to be poor or fair, and 55 percent believe it is worsening. Additionally, 44 percent of Americans, including 50 percent of independents, feel worse off financially compared to a year ago.
Moreover, the poll indicates that those planning to vote for former President Donald Trump are significantly more enthusiastic than those backing Biden. The survey, conducted from April 21-23, sampled 1,651 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of ± 3.3 percentage points.
It’s clear that President Biden has a lot of work to do if he wants to win back the support of the American people. With the top two issues of inflation and immigration weighing heavily on their minds, it’s essential for the administration to address these concerns effectively. Otherwise, it seems likely that his approval ratings will continue to sink like a lead balloon.
