The Defense Department has announced another hefty $725 million aid package for Ukraine, bringing the total military assistance under the Biden administration to a staggering $62 billion. This comes after more than a year and a half of relentless military support since Russia decided to flex its muscles by invading its neighbor in February 2022. Apparently, U.S. taxpayers are now in the business of supplying foreign armies with everything from high-tech artillery to small arms, all while hoping someone in Washington is managing our own stockpiles effectively.
This latest package marks the 71st time President Biden has invoked the Presidential Drawdown Authority to funnel American resources overseas. U.S. officials have assured the public that this cash infusion will ensure that Ukraine has the ammunition it needs to counteract the Soviet-era machinery that has been inching its way into their territory. It seems the office of President Biden is more concerned about the battlefield situation in Ukraine than about the crisis at home, where inflation is skyrocketing and crime rates are climbing.

Rumblings from Trump’s camp suggest that he might take a different approach once he assumes office come January. Trump has repeatedly questioned the enormous sums being funneled to Ukraine and may bring about some much-needed scrutiny of this foreign aid obsession. Given the backlash over the amounts being sent, it wouldn’t be shocking if a few folks in Washington were starting to feel a little nervous about this aid bonanza being prolonged.
The latest bundle of goodies for Ukraine includes everything from the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems to a surprisingly generous mix of landmines and small arms. Just when one thought that military hardware was only for U.S. troops, it turns out these toys are going to a country fighting to keep its sovereignty intact.
While the Biden administration is busy reinforcing its ties with NATO and European allies in support of Kyiv, one has to wonder what the long-term plan is here. It’s difficult to keep track of what exactly is being accomplished as billions continue to flow out of American coffers. Someone might want to ask if this is the direction Americans want to go; funding a foreign war while their infrastructure crumbles back home. Keeping freedom abroad is fair and noble, but maybe it’s time to prioritize freedom and prosperity right here in America.
