President Biden’s administration is attempting to cozy up to Iran, the state known for backing terror activities, a report by the Wall Street Journal says. The report revealed that the Biden administration is currently attempting to “cool” the tensions that exist between it and Iran as it seeks to have billions of dollars, frozen overseas, released to them. The administration appears ready to pay Iran off, the report suggests.
The two sides resumed contacts and discussions and Washington has approved the payment of 2.5 billion euros, equivalent to $2.7 billion, by the Iraqi government for Iranian gas and electricity imports. U.S. officials describe the transference of funds as routine and independent of the ongoing discussions. The call for “cooling” the relations with Iran is contrary to the US’s continuing attempts to send aid and money to Ukraine to aid in the war with Russia, which Iran appears to support through the transfer of weapons and drones to Russia.
Furthermore, the Biden administration’s attempt to sweet-talk Iran could result in the U.S. bribing Iran, a country that routinely calls for the destruction of the U.S. and funds terror organizations deemed hostile to the U.S. and its interests.
Although it seems that the Biden administration is only seeking the release of political prisoners, the cost for this move seems rather high. Tehran demands billions of dollars of Iranian energy revenue, which is trapped outside the country due to US sanctions. The report states that Iranian officials associate the release of prisoners with obtaining $7 billion in Iranian funds held in South Korea.
Iran also demands access to billions of dollars, set aside in Iraq for the delivery of gas and oil. Meanwhile, this administration is heading in favor of making flirty eyes and coquettish smiles at the regime that detests the U.S. and seeks to destroy the “Great Satan”. This affection for an enemy state is especially troubling for U.S. allies in the Middle East, such as Israel and Saudi Arabia, whose security is at risk due to the instability created by Iran’s destabilizing geopolitical activities in the region. It is not surprising, therefore, that the US’s allies in the region are turning towards Russia and China, as the US is losing its footing with its former friends in the region. Joe Cunningham, Senior Editor at RedState, and a former teacher and coach, highlights the significance of the Biden administration’s move, noting how odd it is to bribe Iran into liking the US when it considers the country the “Great Satan.” Cunningham also suggests that the US prioritizes making amends with an anti-American regime rather than supporting its friends and allies in the region, as they face a threat of destabilization by Iran.
