His departure signals a significant shake-up in the Democratic landscape, although one must wonder if the left is really ready for a Harris-led charge.
The ever-emotional Van Jones from CNN likened Biden’s decision to that of a grandfather reluctantly relinquishing his car keys. While the image conjured may evoke sympathy from the right, reality suggests that Biden’s “human moment” is little more than an admission that he can no longer keep pace with the demands of the job. Jones wants the youth of America to see this as leadership and patriotism, but perhaps they’d also view it as evidence that Biden was merely a placeholder who has now run out of pacing.

Not to be outdone, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow stepped up to the plate, arguing that Biden has always been underestimated, claiming this is a “superpower.” Sure, if superpowers involve consistently underperforming and now bowing out of the race entirely. Maddow attempted to spin Biden’s exit into a silver lining that could – in her view – save the United States from another Trump presidency. The irony here is as thick as a Democrat’s misunderstanding of voter sentiment; instead of focusing on winning issues, they may end up regrouping behind a candidate many have doubts about.
Meanwhile, Joe Scarborough, one half of the Morning Joe duo, chimed in with a dose of cheerleading for Harris. He confidently suggested that the Democratic Party could march behind the Vice President as long as she highlighted her experience as a prosecutor. And while Scarborough can dream about lawmaker endorsements in swing states, the reality is that Harris’s track record, much like an old VHS tape from the 90s, is likely to show a lot of wear and not enough new hits.
On social media, the chatter has been equally amusing. Billionaires like Bill Ackman pointed out that if Harris isn’t made the nominee, it would signal a dashed acknowledgment of her qualifications for the role of vice president. Another billionaire, Mark Cuban, who once found himself on Team Biden, noted that “Father time is undefeated.” As usual, the billionaires have their fingers on the pulse of the nation, unlike the Democrats, who seem locked in an endless loop of self-congratulation.
As calls for Biden to bow out intensified following a rocky first presidential debate, it appears the incessant chorus of “time for a change” has finally reached the White House. Celebrities, lawmakers, and even the occasional squirrel tweeting from a tree have claimed Biden’s performance is a clear sign it’s time to pass the torch. Whether Kamala Harris can ignite a campaign or fizzle out remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Biden’s exit hasn’t just opened the door for Harris; it has revealed the chaotic mess of a party that is losing its grip on reality.
