President Biden, once again, provided the nation with a moment of head-scratching confusion, this time during an interview with BET late Wednesday. The octogenarian commander-in-chief seemed to forget the name of his very own Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, raising more eyebrows about his mental fitness for the highest office in the land.
In discussing “dignity” during his chat with the network targeting a Black audience, Biden fumbled over the name of his top defense official. He referred to Austin as simply “the, uh — secretary of defense, a Black man,” before quickly trying to recover by mentioning his appointment of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Biden’s flub added another viral moment to his growing collection of on-air mishaps.
This latest slip-up couldn’t come at a worse time for Biden, with mounting calls from Democrats to step aside for a more viable 2024 candidate. Reports are trickling in that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have expressed serious concerns over Biden’s chances of winning reelection. Apparently, party heavyweights are worried that Biden at the top of the ticket could spell disaster for down-ballot Democrat candidates in November.
Despite being pressed on his decision to stay in the race, Biden, in typical fashion, trotted out the claim that his “wisdom” is an invaluable strength for the Democratic Party. This from the man who just months ago positioned himself as a so-called “transitional” candidate. Now, his performance during the June 27th debate is even being downplayed as merely a “serious mistake.”

As if his on-the-job difficulties weren’t enough, Biden has now been diagnosed with COVID-19, forcing him into isolation. This development sparked further calls for him to drop out, especially from Democratic hopefuls like Rep. Adam Schiff, who are likely hoping to avoid the sinking ship. However, Biden remains defiant, stating that only a dire medical diagnosis could make him reconsider his candidacy.
In conclusion, it appears Biden’s latest gaffe is just another episode showcasing his dwindling mental faculties, while his refusal to step aside is becoming a comedy of errors that even the Democrats find hard to laugh at.
