Biden Grants Secret Service Protection to RFK Jr. After Attack

Joe Biden is finally extending Secret Service protection to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent candidate causing waves in the 2024 presidential race. It appears that even Biden couldn’t ignore the mounting calls for security after a recent attempt on Kennedy’s life this past Saturday. Kennedy, who had the audacity to challenge Biden in the Democratic primary before filing as an independent, has had his supporters clamoring for protection — a choir that included none other than former President Donald Trump.

Let’s not forget that tragedy runs in the Kennedy family tree. Both John F. Kennedy, who held the office of President, and his brother Robert Kennedy, a U.S. Senator, were assassinated. One might think a little protection would be a no-brainer. But alas, it took an attack to jolt Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas into action, who made the grand announcement during Monday’s White House press briefing.

Mayorkas solemnly acknowledged that the United States is in a heightened and dynamic threat environment. In other words, things are bad enough that even Biden could see the writing on the wall. Following this weekend’s events, the President has decided to green-light the Secret Service detail for Robert Kennedy Jr. At least some common sense prevailed for once in this administration.

In addition to ramping up Kennedy’s security, Mayorkas also mentioned that Biden has directed the Secret Service to conduct a full review and investigation into the assassination attempt. The results, we are told, will be made public upon completion. One has to wonder what they’ll find and how long it will take, given the bureaucratic penchant for dragging things out.

Clickbait aside, it’s about time that some level of precaution was taken for a candidate stirring the political pot. Maybe next time, this administration won’t need a near-tragedy to spur them into taking protective measures.
