Biden & Harris Peddle Tax-Funded Debt Eraser as Fiscal Hawks Cry Foul!

In the latest liberal spending spree, Vice President Kamala Harris praised President Joe Biden’s newest scheme to wipe out or shrink student loan debts for about 30 million individuals. She called it a game changer for borrowers, particularly those in line for public service loan forgiveness programs. During a chatty chitchat session in Philadelphia, Harris bemoaned the inadequate pay for teachers and the supposed silent struggle of educators with student loan debts. The Biden plan released later in the day aims to shuffle some or all student loan balances from borrowers to taxpayers.

In order to qualify, debt holders must fall into one of five groups, including those whose balances exceed the original amount borrowed, those with loans taken out many moons ago, those who enrolled in “low-financial-value programs,” those eligible for relief programs but have not applied, and those experiencing “hardship paying back their loans.” Harris led a gabfest with workers who have supposedly been helped by student loan programs, such as a teacher, a nurse, and a social worker. For example, social worker Kelli Gray claimed to have had a debt of over $300,000 waived in February. She mentioned, “My student debt story is like everyone else’s. I knew I wanted a better life for myself.”

During the chat, Harris whined about the underpaid public school employees who could potentially earn more in the private sector, urging them to stay put. Public servants reportedly received an average of $70,000 in debt relief in Biden’s previous effort. But hold your horses because the plan is not without controversy. Republican attorneys general are poised to file lawsuits questioning its legality, while budget hawks say it’s counterproductive.

Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, criticized the plan, arguing that you can’t solve a real debt problem by piling up more debt. She went on to say that the president should scrap these efforts and focus on reforms that actually fix the student loan program and address the sky-high cost of higher education.

Nevertheless, the plan, filled with billions of dollars in student loans funded by taxpayers, was blatantly touted as a golden ticket to buying a house or starting a family by roundtable attendees. They claimed that loanees shouldn’t have to choose between serving and paying their bills. The White House announced that the new plans would fully eliminate accrued interest for 23 million borrowers, cancel the full amount of student debt for over 4 million borrowers, and provide more than 10 million borrowers with at least $5,000 in debt relief or more.

In an attempt to sweeten the deal, Harris flattered attendees, saying, “Your country needs you, and we are benefiting in profound ways because of the sacrifice and the work you all do every day.” Ah, the sweet sound of liberal politically laced pandering.
