President Joe Biden has sparked controversy by failing to keep his promise to have lunch with Vice President Kamala Harris once a week. The president pledged his commitment to the weekly meal when he first started his presidency. However, a Daily Caller analysis has revealed that he has fallen far short of his promise, with only eight lunch appointments in the entire year of 2022 and five so far in 2023.

The decline in their appointments is surprising, even when compared to similar relationships. Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were in constant communication and had weekly lunches. Sean Spicer, who served as White House press secretary under the Trump administration, expressed his surprise at the low numbers.
However, the lull in the Biden-Harris lunches is not the only indicator of their tarnished bond. According to Biden’s public schedule, the number of their jointly-attended Cabinet meetings, presidential daily briefings, and public events also dropped drastically from a total of 215 in 2021 to 97 in 2022.
Aside from her lack of time with the president, Vice President Harris is also struggling with dismal poll ratings, recording at just 36% in approval ratings from a recent Monmouth University poll. The public has grown skeptical of her abilities, and critical media reports have been published questioning her competency.
Biden is expected to run with Harris again in the coming presidential election, according to his confirmation in January of 2022. However, with her low poll numbers and the decline of their appointments, the public may be wary of this decision. Whether or not the pair’s relationship develops in the coming months will surely be a topic of interest.
