President Joe Biden’s recent speech at the 80th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The man just couldn’t resist taking a jab at Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a “tyrant.” Now, I’m all for standing up to bullies, but let’s not forget that diplomacy is all about keeping things civil.
Biden also went on to talk about saving democracy, which is like a broken record at this point. He loves to paint former President Donald Trump as the villain in his story of democracy, conveniently forgetting that Trump gave a stellar speech at the 75th D-Day anniversary.

While praising the Allies of World War II, Biden conveniently left out the fact that Soviet Russia was a crucial ally in defeating the Axis powers. Oops, missed that one, Joe. And don’t get him started on Ukraine – according to Biden, it’s all rainbows and sunshine over there with Ukrainians handing out losses to Russia left and right.
The President warned of the threats to Europe if we don’t stand up against tyranny and dictatorship. It’s all very dramatic, but let’s not forget that strong leadership and strategic diplomacy are key to maintaining peace. Democracy is important, we get it, but maybe a little less fear-mongering and a little more dialogue would go a long way.
Biden wrapped up his speech with some grand statements about defending democracy like a knight in shining armor. It’s all well and good to talk the talk, but let’s see some concrete actions to back up those words. After all, actions speak louder than speeches.
In conclusion, President Biden’s speech may have been full of pomp and circumstance, but it’s actions, not just words, that will truly make a difference. Let’s hope for a bit more substance and a bit less showmanship in the future.
