Biden Salutes SEALs Lost to Treacherous Seas in Houthi Raid

In a solemn announcement on Monday, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden offered their condolences for the presumed deaths of two Navy SEALs who went missing off the coast of Somalia. The SEALs, whose identities remain undisclosed out of respect for their families, were officially declared dead following an exhaustive 10-day search and rescue operation.

The tragic incident unfolded during a nighttime raid on a small Iranian boat transporting components of ballistic and cruise missiles intended for Houthi fighters in Yemen. During the operation, one of the service members attempted to board the vessel in challenging seas but fell into the water, prompting the second sailor to dive in after him following protocol.

President Biden paid tribute to the fallen SEALs, highlighting their unwavering commitment to safeguarding their fellow Americans and characterizing them as "the very best of our country." The recovery efforts are ongoing as the nation grieves the profound loss of these courageous individuals.

The president conveyed sincere sympathies to the families, loved ones, and comrades of the fallen SEALs, emphasizing that the entire nation stands in solidarity with them during this challenging period. The extensive search and recovery mission, covering over 21,000 miles of water and receiving support from Japan and Spain, persists as the nation pledges to honor the service and sacrifice of these American heroes.
