Biden’s Executive Order on Gun Control Sparks Controversy and Missteps

Joe Biden may have been nudged out of the presidential race in July, yet he continues on as the President—though one might question the extent of his involvement in president-like activities. In a recent display of his administration’s ongoing gun control push, Biden put pen to paper on an executive order aimed at addressing gun violence in schools. This order, he believes, will tackle emerging threats and improve a few good-old-fashioned active shooter drills.

The executive order supposedly instructs federal agencies to enhance school-based active shooter preparedness and target problematic items like machinegun conversion devices and those dastardly unserialized, 3D-printed firearms, all while pushing forward the Biden-Harris agenda to curb gun violence. One can’t help but wonder how many more executive orders will be needed before they actually address the root causes of violence, rather than merely wielding a pen like a magic wand.

Biden, flanked by Vice President Kamala Harris and a slew of gun control supporters, took to the podium to declare that there remains “so much more we have to do.” He lamented the need to bring back the assault weapons ban and restrict high-capacity magazines. It’s a peculiar form of hopeful anticipation, where, instead of recognizing the effectiveness of arming school resource officers or securing school premises, the administration doubles down on more restrictions, assuming that criminals will suddenly obey the law.

The event took a turn for the bizarre when Biden targeted Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who happens to be the Republican vice presidential nominee. Biden, seemingly uninformed, mistakenly referred to Vance as “Secretary of Ohio,” a title that doesn’t exist. This slip produced an opportunity for the President to unleash a tirade, suggesting that Vance views school shootings as mere “facts of life.” In reality, Vance expressed concern about school shootings being unfortunate occurrences due to schools being vulnerable targets, advocating for enhanced security rather than a resigned acceptance of violence.

Ironically, Harris jumped at the chance to mischaracterize Vance’s statement, falsely accusing him of prioritizing the NRA and the gun lobby over the safety of children. Such tactics only serve to underscore the desperation within the Democratic camp to spin narratives rather than confront the multifaceted issues of safety and security in schools. As events unfold, it becomes clearer that Biden continues to navigate through a political minefield, prioritizing a divisive agenda rather than seeking constructive solutions. The deputies of the left are focused more on rhetoric than real reforms, confirming that much is still amiss in the Biden administration’s approach to governance.
