The White House is deflecting blame onto Congress for the border crisis, but they conveniently fail to mention that President Joe Biden rolled back many of former President Trump’s tough immigration policies on his very first day in office. Biden signed executive orders to halt the construction of the border wall, revoke deportation orders, and impose a 100-day moratorium on deportations. And surprise, surprise, illegal immigration has since surged to record levels under Biden. It’s almost like if you signal that the border is open for business, people will take advantage of it.
According to federal data, there have been over 2.2 million encounters at the southern border in fiscal year 2022 and over 2 million in fiscal year 2023. In December alone, there were more than 300,000 illegal migrant encounters, making it the highest month on record. It’s clear that Biden’s weak immigration policies are directly contributing to this crisis. But instead of taking responsibility, the White House is pointing fingers at Congress and insisting that they pass Biden’s “day one” immigration plan.

Let’s not forget that Biden has had plenty of time to address immigration. He presented a comprehensive immigration proposal almost three years ago. That’s three years of inaction by Congress. But now, when the consequences of their own policies are becoming apparent, they expect Congress to fix the mess they created. It’s classic political blame-shifting.
The truth is, Biden’s actions have sent a clear signal to the world that the border is open and illegal immigration will go unpunished. By rescinding Trump’s orders to withhold federal funding from sanctuary jurisdictions and to remove illegal aliens, Biden is essentially rewarding jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. And let’s not forget about the emergency declaration he ended, which was funding the construction of a much-needed border wall. All of these actions have contributed to the crisis we’re seeing today.
Furthermore, Biden’s DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issued a memo explicitly stating that simply crossing the border illegally is no longer grounds for removal. This sends a message to potential migrants that they can enter the country without consequence. It’s no wonder we’re seeing record numbers at the border.
Instead of pressuring Texas to stand down on their efforts to secure the border, the Biden administration should be taking notes. Texas has taken matters into their own hands by erecting razor wire and refusing to relinquish control over areas where illegal crossings are rampant. But the Biden administration would rather play politics than acknowledge the effectiveness of these measures.
In conclusion, the border crisis is a direct result of Biden’s immigration policies. The White House can try to blame Congress all they want, but the American people see through their excuses. It’s time for the administration to take responsibility and implement real solutions to secure our border and protect American citizens.
