The Biden administration is reportedly gearing up to redefine the concept of presidential pardons in a way that would leave average Americans scratching their heads. Instead of the traditional post-conviction forgivable act, it seems Biden plans to hand out “prospective” or “preemptive” pardons to his political allies before they even run afoul of the law. Talk about a backstage pass for the politically connected!
This latest scheme raises eyebrows and not just for the typical reasons one might expect. Allowing a sitting president to issue pardons before any wrongdoing has occurred could effectively turn the justice system on its head. Imagine the political favorites with their hands out, eagerly awaiting their VIP pass to avoid any consequences for crimes they haven’t even committed yet. The notion of preventative pardons can easily be viewed as another nail in the coffin for the integrity of the justice system. While the average American faces legal troubles for petty offenses, it appears that political elites would get a blank check to operate above the law. It seems that the days of equal treatment under the law are fading away faster than a Biden gaffe at a press conference. In an era where accountability is crucial, what’s next on the agenda—a “get out of jail free” card for every Democrat in office?
Moreover, this idea raises serious concerns about the motivations behind such a radical shift. Is it truly about justice, or is this just another desperate attempt to protect a dwindling political base? With investigations revolving around Hunter Biden and other political allies heating up, it’s not hard to see the timing as rather convenient. Keeping political cronyism alive while sidestepping the potential consequences will surely appeal to a certain kind of politician who thinks the rules don’t apply to them.

What happens when a president from the other side of the aisle decides they, too, can issue pardons preemptively, potentially transforming this power into a tool for political vengeance?
